Sports Medicine Specialist Questions Fractured hand

Is it safe to play badminton after a hand fracture?

My husband fractured his hand because of a fall. His cast is now out since last week, and now he wants to go back to playing on his badminton team. Is it safe for him?

Yes as long as the fracture is fully healed (and cleared by the doctor), feel free to start increasing activity. You might want to increase activity slowly. Stiffness & swelling are to be expected. Could consider wearing a soft brace while playing upon returning.
Sounds like it might be too soon.
He needs to ask his orthopedic surgeon
His hand will probably be weak and stiff after cast treatment, so he should first ask the doctor that stopped the cast what he should specifically do to get into badminton-playing shape again (for example, physical therapy or wear a hand brace while playing).
Usually, your treating physician should guide him on return to play. A cast is usually used until sufficient bone healing to start motion. To fully heal on X-rays can take 3-5 months. He may not be healed enough to resume all activities.

No
Needs to have a Slow 2-4 week Return to play with MVT and calcium / Vitamin D with shot of orange juice. Start a grip strengthening program and if it is not sore every day after then 4 weeks to prevent RE-BREAK or. STRESS fracture by not staging his return.
You are the boss of this man so explain he had to work and and he needs to Prepare All the bones in his hand for return to play!
My wife did this and “She was right” not me the “Expert”
