The first step would be to take over the counter pain medication, such as ibuprofen. If you have already attempted to control the pain with pain medications, such as ibuprofen or tylenol, with no improvement, or if you are experiencing neurological symptoms such as weakness or numbness along with the pain, you should go to the ED. Otherwise, a visit to a primary care physician, or a pain medicine doctor, will be more appropriate.
If it is a current traumatic event, then yes, you should go to the emergency room. If it is a long standing problem, then you should rest and use heat.
it depends on your symptoms. If the symptoms are mild, you do not have to go to the ER. If you have mild symptoms, please consult with a neurologist.
