Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Questions Dental Surgery (Oral Surgery)

Should I avoid hot foods after oral surgery?

I need to have oral surgery in a few days, and I am trying to buy foods that I can eat while my mouth heals. Are hot foods permitted after oral surgery? Or should I avoid them?

We advise people to avoid hot foods during the interval of numbness following a procedure in order to minimize the chance of burning the oral mucosa. Heat or hot foods may cause vasodilation which may contribute to bleeding.

You should avoid hot food for at the least the first three days to avoid bleeding from the surgical site
I would avoid hot foods for a few days after your surgery...but, as always, please consult YOUR oral surgeon regarding any questions pertaining to your care.
