OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions Pregnancy

Should I go to every appointment when pregnant?

I'm only a few months pregnant, and I'm also 25 years old. My doctor wants me to go to her a lot, twice a month. I feel like this is too much. Do I have to go to every appointment?

The request by your doctor may depend on your risk. Confer with him or her why so many visits and they will clarify the mgt plan with you.
Usually uncomplicated pregnancies are every 4 weeks in the beginning and then about twice a month when it gets closer to your due date. But you should talk to your OB doc why he/she thinks it’s important for you to be seen twice a month.
During pregnancy, if it’s a normal pregnancy and no risk factors then it is recommended that you are seen every month until you are 30 weeks. Then you should be seen every 2 weeks and then every week starting 35-36 weeks.
You need to understand that complications can arise any time in pregnancy even with no other risk factors and your visits are to screen for the complications like diabetes, pre eclampsia etc
Rarely you might develop pre eclampsia earlier in your pregnancy and if not picked up early could lead to fetal and maternal complications and death.
Most OBGy’s drop patient’s care if they miss 2 or more appointments since they do want to assume responsibility for a non compliant patient.
If you are asked to come back every 2 weeks earlier in pregnancy, discuss the reasons for frequent visits. It is very important to communicate with your doctor, they always are looking out for you and your baby.

Good luck and stay healthy!
Good prenatal care is important during pregnancy. Talk with your doctor about how often you should see her. Every pregnancy is different and you may need to be seen more often for many reasons. It is normal to be seen twice a month after 26 – 28 weeks and then weekly after 36 weeks.
Doctor will check you for infection and hormonal evaluations as both can cause trouble in pregnancy
Absolutely!
