“Can someone live with one lung collapsed?”
My son who is 7 years old suffered from pneumonia that was triggered by the influenza virus. Despite the medication and the treatment, his left lung remains collapsed. He is currently breathing with the help of the ventilator. Is it possible for him to survive with only one lung?

I have seen influenza do this, but a bronchoscopopy should be done to see if the lung can be cleared of debris. There are certain types of influenza that if this is done, and perhaps repeatedly, your child will most likely be okay and that lung will be okay.
Treating with the antiviral as well as for a secondary bacterial infection is important. Bronchoscopopy can assist with identification as well.
