Ear-Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT) Questions Smelly Phelgm

There is a strange smell from my phelgm everytime I spit it out. Could there be a problem?

I am a 32 year old woman. I am coughing and sneezing, and I also feel slight congestion in my chest. Every time I spit out the phelgm, there is a strange smell. Could it be the indication of some problem?

This could represent an infection. It's worth seeing your doctor. Phlegm could also smell off if there is acid reflux as well. Post nasal drip could also result in an abnormal smell, particularly if there is an associated infection of the sinonasal cavity.
Yes, it could be a sign of sinus infection or bronchitis (infection or inflammation of the windpipe). Based on other symptoms and signs or findings, it could also be a sign of a lung infection. I recommend to consult a physician.
Thank you.

These may be symptoms of a common cold or viral infection causing the symptoms. Mucus production of the respiratory system is usually increased as a protection of the body and sometimes the change in the mucus is noticed by a different smell as the mucus is thicker. Symptoms that persist after 7-10 days may be indicative of a transition from an inflammation to bacterial infection requiring treatment by a health care provider
Increased mucus production, occurs with respiratory tract infections in theq nose and sinuses. This may also discharge to the back of the throat. Mucus is not harmful but sometimes has a distinct smell when the mucus becomes thicker. The mucous glands responded to the infection, increase production of mucus and can be improved with aggressive hydration and topical saline techniques
Depending on where the phlegm is coming from. Could indicate nasal/sinus infection, bronchitis, etc.
