Orthopaedic Surgeon (Pediatric) Questions Shoulder dislocation

Is surgery required for a shoulder dislocation?

My 14 year old son is very active in sports, and has dislocated the same shoulder twice. He now complains of shoulder pain. Does he need surgery?

If he is a repeat dislocator and has signs of Labral injury in his shoulder then surgery is usually worth considering. The pain unfortunately can be coming from a lot of things, surgery could help with stability but pain may not go away. That would take a lot of PT and strengthening.
