Swollen Ankle After A Tibial Plateau Fracture?

I just had surgery to fix a tibial plateau fracture on Tuesday, and today my ankle is swollen. Should I be nervous?

I am assuming that you were not a six-year-old female. That must’ve been missed typed. It is very typical to have swelling down to the ankle after tibial plateau surgery. Keep your leg elevated as much as possible pump your ankle to circulate the blood. If the swelling persists or should you develop pain in the calf you should have an ultrasound to be sure you’re not developing a blood clot. Your doctor may have put you on an anticoagulant such as aspirin to prevent any clots.

That is normal.
Some swelling is normal but if it extends to the calf and is painful you should seek immediate evaluation to rule out a blood clot.
These questions must always come with a disclaimer because there is no way to fully assess your condition in this forum. I recommend you call your surgeon and ask for advice. I also assume that you are an adult and not 6 years old as stated in the question.
Some swelling is to be expected. Make sure you are exercising your ankle up and down and that will help reduce the swelling as well as elevating your leg as much as you can. If the swelling keeps increasing he should contact your surgeon.
First, you should be calling your surgeon to ask that question. Gravity pulls fluid down, so if you haven't propped your leg up, its just gravity. However, if it is bothering you enough to send an email, a doctor should look at it to make sure it isn't something more serious.
