Audiologist Questions Hearing loss

What tests are available to me to confirm possible hearing loss?

I've been a little hard of hearing lately, and I would like to know if there are any definitive tests that I can undergo to confirm whether or not I have a hearing loss problem.

Yes, a trained Audiologist will run you through a variety of tests such as an Auditory Brainstem Response Test or Behavioral Audiometry Evaluation.

Early treatment is best so please consult an Audiologist in person for this matter, which you can find one through the American Audiology Association (

You need to have a comprehensive audiogram. This will include testing different pitches to find the softest level you can hear. The test also includes a speech understanding portion that helps to determine how well you understand speech when it is presented at a comfortable listening level. A comprehensive audiogram will tell you the type and degree of hearing impairment you are experiencing.
There are many tests that can be done to evaluate your hearing. If you have access to a computer and are able to go online, there are preliminary online tests to evaluate your hearing. These give you an idea as to whether you have any significant hearing loss or not. For a better evaluation though, you'd probably have to go to an audiologist or audiometrist who will have all the equipment at their office.

Go to hearing aid dealer or an ENT MD for diagnostic audiogram
The proper specialist to evaluate your hearing is ENT audiology. The ear, nose, and throat specialist examines the ears and the audiologist performs hearing tests. Your primary physician can provide you with a referral if necessary.
