The doctors are suspecting my father to be suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Are there any tests to confirm the diagnosis?

The diagnosis may be suspected by clinical observation and patient history. MRI, CT, and PET scans help to confirm the diagnosis. There is a genetic test as well, however, only about 20% of patients with alzheimers are positive for the genetic abnormality. Neuropsychiatric testing may prove useful as well.
There are no specific tests, but performing neuropsychological evaluation could help.
Alzheimer’s disease is not diagnosed with simple tests, it’s a combination of tests placed together in order to come up with the diagnosis. There are many mimics for Alzheimer’s such as low B12 levels so we check many blood work and tests to help with the diagnosis.
