“My son is training in skating. Does he require physical therapy?”
My son is training in skating and works very hard. Should we consider physical therapy along with the regular training?

Hi!
Good question as it's always good to be proactive in managing your health, or, in this case, your son's health! Physical therapy is typically most utilized to help recover from an injury as opposed to prevention of injury, however, at Forever Fit PT & Wellness, we believe in a holistic approach to healthcare and offer "Wellness Checks" as a way to screen for any increased risk of injury before it were to happen!

Great question. I am a big fan of evaluating people once a year as a yearly exam. Everyone understands the importance of being examined by their primary care physician, however, they do not perform a physical examination. Physical Therapists are movement experts and can be very helpful identifying mobility restrictions, weakness, poor stability etc that could be addressed before problems begin. That's my opinion
If he is not in pain, please recommend him to stretch every day after his skating classes. This will help prevent injuries.
Typically when performing sport specific training, muscle imbalances may develop due to repetitively training the same muscle groups in the same way. So seeing a physical therapist is a good idea in order to counteract muscle imbalances and avoid overuse type injuries.
Some physical therapists are great with enhancing sport specific skills. Physical therapy is not just a restorative care option, but with the right therapist you can also experience great sport specific enhancement. But, everything starts with an initial evaluation.
