How can I treat frequent ear pains in my 5 year old?

My daughter is 5 years old and she keeps getting frequent ear pains. Is there a way to treat this at home?

Tylenol
If the pains are from ear infections, that can cause later hearing problems. Should be examined, and the exact cause treated.
If she is still getting ear infections at this age she may have ear tube dysfunction
or sinusitis and may need to see ENT. Most recurrent ear infections get better by 2 years old . If pain is recurrent and not relieved by tylenol she needs checking in order to keep her hearing normal.
I suggest your child be examined by an ENT specialist and make sure she does not need tubes in her ears.
The most common cause of ear pain in a 5 y/o would be a middle ear infection secondary to a cold or respiratory infection. Your daughter needs her ears checked by your pediatrician to rule out ear infection or a collection of middle ear fluid after a cold. In addition, sore throats (either strep throat or a viral throat infection) can cause ear pain due to the proximity of the throat and the middle ear as well as causing the deep lymph nodes under the ear to be painful during a throat infection.
