Geriatrician Questions Dementia

What age is a geriatric patient?

My mom is 80 years old and is starting to experience symptoms of dementia. Like, for instance, she sometimes forgets her pills or takes more pills than she needs to. Should we take her to a geriatrician? At what age is a patient considered geriatric?

Geriatrics technically covers all patients over the age of 65. A geriatrician specialized in the care of elderly patients; discuss with her doctor if he/she feels your mother needs the specialized care of a geriatrician. Most general internists are fully capable of managing elderly patients unless they have advanced or specialized needs.
