What anesthetic is used for root canal?

I'm 22 years of age, and I need to have a root canal soon. What kind of anesthetic is typically used?

Typically, a local anesthetic is utilized and that is sufficient. Some practices will offer some sedation as well, however, if there is no specialist to administer it and watch the airway except the dentist, it is best to use an oral anti-anxiety medication if needed prior to the procedure, and local anesthetic for the root canal.
Usually just local anesthesia by the dentist.
