“What are inflamed taste buds?”
I noticed a strange spot on my tongue, and that area is very tender. It hurts whenever I eat or brush my teeth. My doctor told me that I have inflamed taste buds, which I never really heard of. What does this mean? I'm 30 years old and male.

Hi! It may be a reaction to a toothpaste or a mouthwash. Sometimes you may also have brushed the area too agreesively. If in 2 weeks it has not gone away, I recommend seeing your dentist.
Hi. It is a little difficult to diagnose without seeing the lesion.
What is more common to your description is to have a traumatized localized area, which can be over a taste bud or not. The important thing is to make sure, that what ever have or is traumatizing the area, is no longer present. Normally it occurs with hot coffee, biting, or a rough area on your teeth that keeps rubing. We reccomend that, if lasts more than 2 weeks, you seek a dentist or an oral pathologist to investigate it further, but normally a raised area is nothing much to worry about. I hope I could help.

Sometimes your tongue may burn from Colgate toothpaste. Try changing toothpastes and stay away from spicy foods.
Almost everything that is not a concern in the mouth will resolve in two weeks. If it doesn't, I would get a second opinion. You can have inflamed taste buds due to irritation of some sort, whether it is spicy food or other irritants. Medications can also cause side effects, and vitamin inefficiencies can cause problems with the taste buds as well. There are numerous different types of taste buds that cover the surface of your tongue.
That tender spot on you tongue must be diagnosed by a qualified dentist. It may be necessary to have a biopsy of that area. An oral surgeon would be best qualified to do that.
