I am a 50 year old male and I have a cataract. What are the disadvantages of cataract surgery?

It's surgery, there is down time and operation risks.
If your vision is reduced to the point where the quality of your life is negatively impacted, there is no disadvantage to cataract surgery as it is the only known treatment to cure your visual loss.
