First order of business is to identify the cause of anemia. Treatment of anemia requires addressing the underlying cause. Iron deficiency is a common cause of anemia among young women, however I recommend thorough evaluation including testing iron and B12 levels prior to starting any treatment.
Anemia may be caused by heavy periods. There are two treatments. One is oral iron, the second red blood cell transfusions. I would discuss this with your primary care physician or gynecologist
Treatment entirely depends on the cause. If you are a young, menstruating female with heavy periods and a low intake of iron, e.g., red meats, the chances are that you are simply iron deficient. and need iron supplementation, easily obtained without Rx at any phramacy. However, if periods are very heavy, oral supplementation may not be sufficient or the anemia may be due to an entirely different cause.
