What can cause diarrhea?

My 4-year-old daughter has diarrhea many times over the course of a month. What could be the cause?

Diarrhea that last for 1 month should be investigated by a Pediatric gastroenterologist for causes of chronic diarrhea. These include some infections, lactose intolerance, celiac disease, food allergy/intolerance including cow milk protein allergy, and none celiac disease gluten sensitivity, inflammatory bowel diseases, and less likely neuroendocrine tumors, and autoimmune enteropathy
Is it after certain foods? Is she losing weight? Is there blood in the stool? Any new pets? Has she been swimming in the river? If she is not losing weight and does not have fever, try a bland diet with lactaid milk, no juice or starchy foods such as potatoes, breads, rice, etc. If diarrhea does not go away, she would need testing.
