Dentist Questions Toothaches

What can I do about a toothache while pregnant?

I'm 36 weeks pregnant, and I have a bad toothache on the left side of my mouth, but my dentist told me that he can't do anything until after my delivery. Is there anything I can do for my toothache while pregnant?

Doctors have different professional positions about treating pregnant patients. Since every patient is different and treatment protocols depend on patient and doctor. There is no one
answer. You need to have some form of pain management. Because your baby is a part of you, any treatment given to you will affect your baby. Getting back to your Ob/gyn and see what can be done before you deliver is your best course of action.
A dentist should be able to help any time, you should not suffer.
There is no reason you can't get some sort of treatment while pregnant. If your dentist won't do anything, find one who will.
Your dentist can contact your physician or OB/GYN and communicate what kind of treatment you require. The physician will then let him know what type anesthetic, medications, and procedures are okay to perform given your conditions and/or risk. Usually, emergencies like your case are dealt with removing the cause of the pain, and after delivery, you return to complete the procedure.
You should definitely be able to have treatment now to treat this problem. This is not the time to be suffering from major pain. Perhaps you should try to see another dentist to see what could be done now.
Good luck.
