There could be different reasons why your 11-year-old son's teeth are sensitive. In order to determine the solution, he needs to be seen by a dentist. Sensitivity can be caused by a cavity, erosion of enamel, exposure of dentine, or cracked tooth syndrome on the clinical crown. He might need a filling, toothpaste with desensitizer like sensodyne, or a night guard to stop grinding and/or clenching if he has cracks on the teeth causing the sensitivity.
It would be best to have your son be evaluated for the source of pain to provide a proper recommendation to reduce or eliminate the sensitivity.
Fluoride treatment at home might help. However, you should see your dentist to make sure everything is OK will all teeth.
Consult your dentist.
The teeth can be sensitive for a variety of reason. The most common reason for sensitivity is the presence of a cavity. The teeth will become sensitive to cold and sweets at this stage and should be a red flag to get the child to the dentist for evaluation. The next stage is pain and at that point it is usually means a root canal or an extraction. My advice is to not take the chance and see your dental provider right away to rule out the worst.
You need to see a dentist to determine the cause of the sensitivity.
When was his last dental visit? If it's been more than 6 months, time for another exam. Try sensitive toothpaste, perhaps a prescription strength toothpaste, might be a great option.
Every one is different. Sensitive teeth most often has to do with the condition of the gums. Take your son to your dentist. Let your dentist look over his teeth and gums. Ask your dentist to review flossing and brushing. Make sure your son is using a soft toothbrush. Your dentist may find a problem with the way your son's teeth come together. There can be several things that your son may or may not be doing. Your son is eleven. How you approach watching your son do home care is important. Most kids will do home care in less than 1 minute. Your son may be eating or chewing on something that is irritating his gums. There are toothpastes for sensitive teeth. It may take some time to discover what or which thing is causing the problem.
Hello,

There are numerous causes for tooth sensitivity, and if your son's sensitivity is severe, I suggest having your son see a dentist for evaluation to rule out any causes that may require treatment. However, in the meantime I would recommend using a toothpaste designed to treat tooth sensitivity, such as Sensodyne. In order for this toothpaste to be effective, it needs to be used twice a day for about four weeks. I would also recommend avoiding bleaching and any highly acidic foods including sodas, juice, sour candies, as these can exacerbate sensitivity.

Thank you,
