How old is the infant? And toddlers usually do not need any medicine.
How old is the child? Sounds like your child has symptoms of upper respiratory tract inflammation and you are thinking that he has these symptoms because of allergies. The first question is why are you thinking about allergies as compared to anything else? Does he have symptoms in a specific time of the day or year or after coming in contact with something? He can be managed better if we know the answer (s) of these basic questions. If you want to try something generic, then you can try Claritin or Zyrtec. The dose should be according to weight and age of child.
We usually give them antihistamines and if old enough they can use nasal steroid sprays which are very effective.
