A spot on the liver is a way of explaining an abnormal imaging study, particularly if unclear what kind of abnormality that is. It could be a collection of blood vessels, a cyst (thin-walled lesion filled with fluid), or a solid lesion that can be cancerous or not. It all depends on why imaging was done, what type of imaging that was, the size of the spot, underlying liver disease or not, etc. Be sure to ask more details if all you were told is, "You have a spot on the liver." Does it require follow-up? Does it require different imaging or biopsy?
