“What does oil pulling do for teeth?”
I'm 40, and I heard from my friend about the benefits of oil pulling. Is it really effective? What does oil pulling do for the teeth?

There is no medical literature that supports the benefit of oil pulling. If you do this rather than seek conventional dentistry you will be putting your oral health at risk and may also affect your overall health.
Oil pulling does not affect the tooth structure as much as it does the soft tissue. The effect will help to decrease the amount of plaque buildup on the tooth structure, which then decreases the irritation to the soft tissue which occurs when plaque attaches to the tooth structure and causes the tissue to swell and bleed.
Oil pulling involves swishing coconut oil in your mouth to remove bacteria and promote oral hygiene. Coconut oil is the richest source of Lauric Acid known to man. Lauric acid is broken down into a compound called monolaurin, which can kill harmful bacteria, fungi and viruses in the body. Reducing harmful bacteria in your mouth has obvious advantages. Some people suggest oil pulling with coconut oil daily for 10-20 minutes.
