What happens if a tooth root is left in the gum?

I am a 33 year old male. I want to know what happens if a tooth root is left in the gum?

It will harbor bacteria and it should be removed.
It might need to come out as it is possible it can get infected.

Hi

A tooth root in the gum can become infected. It is best removed if possible.

Hope that helps

If a root is left in the gum, three outcomes are possible:

1. If the pulp chamber is exposed, the root can be infected with the pathogens gaining access through the pulp chamber and canals. This can result in an abscess. In a worst case scenario, it may develop into a cyst.
2. The body or the alveolar bone may reject the root leading it to eventually be extruded. Also, in the presence of periodontal condition, the root may also slowly work its way out of the gum.
3. Nothing happens. The root can remain under the gum and be asymptotic.

It can become infected and possibly abscess. It is best to get removed before the gums grow over it.
