That depends on the actual diagnosis. Some conditions will just continue to cause discomfort, while others could progress and lead to bigger problems or need for surgery.
Difficult to say. In some cases the symptoms of pain, joint clicking and locking, limited jaw motion will resolve without treatment. Only a small percentage of patients require surgery, but treatment of TMJ disorders needs to be directed and monitored by someone with a good deal of knowledge and experience. I recommend seeing an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon for evaluation
Chew softer food, take anti-inflammatories, and use moist heat if you choose not to have surgery or wear a splint.
It gets worse.
Tends to get worse sometimes.
