“What is a pus culture?”
My mom's doctor was throwing this term around us earlier. What is a pus culture? How is this test done?

A “pus culture” is a culture of the dead debris of the lesion. It is used to identify the presence of pathogenic organism. It is used to confirm the aerobic bacteria’s sensitivity, which infects the human body. Thank you.
Pus is a term used to describe the gooey part of a wound. It can be gray, yellow or even green. The doctor would take a sterile swab and get some of the pus. it is then sent for culture to see what bacteria is growing in it. This would assist with what type of medicine can fight the wound.

Pus is usually produced after some infection caused by pus producing bacteria. Pus culture done on a swab from the oozing pus or from an aspirate for pus collection can give us results about the type of bacteria involved and the antibiotic sensitivities against them.
A pus culture is when a sample of the pus (purulent material) is collected under sterile circumstances and tested for microorganism identification, usually by applying the collected sample into "culture media", the latter being prepared material that promotes growth of microorganisms. Once growth is identified, it is classified as to the type of organism and based on this knowledge, the person is treated.
