yes
For sure it's possible to replace crowns, but need to discover the reason of the pain first.
Hi, crowns, like any other restoration in the mouth rarely lasts forever. They are replaced when necessary. Caries or tooth recession may be present causing discomfort. Severe pain may indicate the nerve and blood supply inside the tooth is infected. A visit to a dentist is definitely recommended.
Yes but the reason may be that the nerve has broken down and requires a root canal. If so they will drill through the crown to do the procedure and you most likely will not need to replace the crown
Crowns can be replaced usually by cutting them off, cleaning the tooth underneath and placing a new foundation filling and a new crown on top. Since you are having pain, your tooth needs to be checked in case the nerve is infected. You might also need a root canal. Your dentist will be able to assess and let you know.
To answer your question – yes, you can replace crowns. However, your predicate states that the crown is causing you a lot of pain. Your dentist needs to determine the reason for and the cause of the pain. Please see your dentist as soon as possible to determine what treatment is necessary to address and relieve your pain.
Good luck!

Replacing a crown is not hard to do. The bigger question is why are you feeling pain. Very likely simply replacing the crown will not eliminate your pain. Pain is often caused by the nerve in your tooth dying and the solution for that is a root canal. Impossible to diagnose here. Make sure you see a good dentist who can give you a proper diagnosis. All the Best!
