Urology Questions Prostatitis

What is prostatitis?

My husband is 55 years old, and he was recently diagnosed with prostatis from a bacterial infection. What exactly is prostatis? He's on antibiotics now, but will it take a while to go away?

Prostatitis is an infection in the prostate. The prostate is what we call a "protected space" - antibiotics and other drugs have a hard time crossing from the blood into the prostate, so the antibiotic takes a long time to kill off the infection. Treatment is usually for six to eight weeks.
