Neurosurgeon Questions Tumor removal

What is the recovery period after a brain surgery to get a tumor removed?

I need to have brain surgery to remove a tumor in my brain, located on the left side. I'm not really worried about it because the tumor is not huge. But, I would like to know how would the recovery be. What should I expect?

It depends on the size and location of the tumor. Almost all of my brain tumor patients go home the morning after surgery with a full head of hair, and are out and about in a day or 2, and back to work in less than a week, depending on how strenuous their work is. You should not have any staples to remove or any head wrap or any bandage, and your incision should be completely hidden by your hair immediately after surgery (If you are not already bald). There are very few, very limited exceptions to this rule, but without knowing exactly where you tumor is, and what kind of tumor it is, and how big it is, I can't tell you if you would be one of the very few exceptions.
The recovery depends of the location of the tumor. I don't see the MRI, therefore I cannot give specific answers. It will take 3-4 months to recover from any brain surgery.
It all depends on the exact location, type of tumour, and skill of the surgeon. It could be a few weeks to months.
Be patient with yourself and pace your activity in agreement with your care team recommendations.
You should be worried. For most of us, the left side of the brain is our dominant hemisphere. Which complications when they occur are always worse. Uncomplicated brain tumor excision should take about 6 weeks to recovery from fully.
