“What is spina bifida?”
My nephew was just born with spina bifida, and I'm trying to learn everything I can about it. What is spina bifida? How much will this affect his future life?

Spina bifida is open spine. The level where the spine opens determines the degree of disability. This can affect nerves to his legs. If the level is high, he may not walk without crutches or wheelchair. He may have problems with bowel and bladder function. A very low level may not have any problems, just has to be closed at birth.
