Low-dose radiation can actually be beneficial, like alcohol. It will stimulate your immune system, but too much is bad and can cause cancer.
Most x-rays pass right through the human body. That's why they are able to be detected to create an image. On there way through the human body, some bounce off material and change direction and don't get detected. Some actually can get absorbed by molecules and don't get detected. Depending on the density of the material, a higher or lower get transmitted. Areas of low density ( air/lungs) allow a lot of x-rays to pass through. Higher density material (bones) don't let as many pass through. X-rays are radiation. Those that get absorbed have the potential to damage molecules which can cause problems such as cancer, cataracts, birth defects, etc. It is best to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure.
Low dose are actually beneficial...high dose can cause cancer. Medical radiation is no more than you get flying in a commercial airplane or living in Denver.
