Your dentist should tell you all instructions before and after.
Your dentist should give you guidance after he determines how difficult your extraction was and if there is none graft and sutures. The whole goal is to prevent getting a dry socket (a situation where the blood clot is lost). However, brushing is good to keep the mouth clean--- but do not SPIT; let it drool over the sink when you are done brushing.

You will want to brush gently after a couple of days. Depending on the surgery involvement you should be able to brush normally after about a week
For the first 24 hours following any extraction, patients may be advised not to rinse their mouth. Your oral surgeon will have a set of instructions for you to follow. After 24 hours, if you are instructed to start rinsing your mouth, rinsing as much as possible is soothing to the surgical site. Depending on how wide you can open your mouth to get a toothbrush in your mouth, you may want to start with a small soft tooth brush. You will not want to touch the surgical site, but using gauze 2 x 2's or 4 x4's to clean your teeth and a tongue cleaner will help to freshen your mouth.
You should wait 24 hours after the extraction to brush your teeth. This allows the extraction site to clot properly.
You can brush your teeth right away. It is recommended you avoid brushing the area of surgery however for approximately 1 week.
The doctor removing your teeth should give you complete instructions. Here's short version of brushing post surgery guidelines: 1. Start as soon as you can. 2. Go real slow and easy around the extraction sites. 3. Keep the rest of your mouth (don't for get your tongue) clean. 4. No forceful spitting.
Hope that helps.
About 6 to 7 days but you must start gingerly at first and you can brush slightly over a period of time softer.
