“When is a CT scan preferred over an X-ray?”
When should I do a CT scan over an X-ray? Do these tests have a certain criteria that you follow?

CT shows way more than an X-ray and is more expensive. In general, go with a CT over X-ray, unless you don't have insurance.
Hi,
It depends on what you are looking for. I am not able to go into a complete discussion regarding all the various uses of a CT scan verses radiography, but to say that usually X-rays are used to screen for pathology and then if abnormal, are followed by a CT scan. This is to protect against radiation exposure as CT scans have more radiation the CT scans.
I hope that helps,
