This is too general of a question to answer. If you have pain that doesn't go away, see a doctor, unless you are happy living with the pain.
If it is an acute injury such as you fell from a bicycle then you should see someone right away. If there is no injury and the pain just started, you should do the usual home care with warm soaks and using ibuprofen or Tylenol. If the pain is increasing or lasting more than 2 weeks you should consult a medical provider.
You should see an Orthopedic Surgeon if you have had an injury that persists after a few days, are unable to bear weight/limping significantly, or if the pain is still present after 2-3 weeks when there has been no specific injury.
See a doctor for the following reasons: if you have had a traumatic event with bruising swelling or deformity. If your pain persists despite rest, elevation and anti inflammatory meds. Or if you have numbness or weakness in the leg, swelling that does not get better with elevation.

Hope it helps!!

There are several causes of leg pain. You can have sciatica from your back. You can have chronic compartment syndrome of your leg. You can also have a stress fracture of your leg or pulled muscles. If you continue to have pain for several weeks, you should see an orthopedic doctor to work up the cause of your leg pain.
Take care.
Any pain lasting longer than one week should be evaluated.
Dr. Robson only specializes in the neck and back.
