Which braces are best metal or ceramic?

I am a 17 year old male who is deciding which type of braces is best for me. Which braces are best metal or ceramic?

What ever you want, silver, gold or clear. Your choice. There are situations where ceramic is not good in the lower arch if the bite would contact the ceramic bracket which would cause damage to upper teeth or interfere with closing the teeth tight together. Also glass (ceramic) can break and cannot be identified on an X-ray. I don't especially like ceramic brackets on active sports minded kids. Metal can be safer under certain circumstances.
They essentially work the same but look different cosmetically. That's about the only major difference.
Great questions. Metal vs. ceramic vs. invisible aligners are all great tools in the hands of the right dentist or orthodontist. As long as the doctor is skilled in orthodontics, you can achieve the same results with any of those systems, and it comes down to you to decide your material of choice. Metal brackets are, of course, the most traditional. Ceramic brackets are more cosmetic as they are more discrete and match with the color of your teeth. And invisible aligners, as the name suggests, are clear and difficult to see unless you look very closely.

It doesn’t matter, both perform to align the teeth, however, you are concerned with aesthetics, then ceramic.
Hi,

I would honestly go with the metal brackets as they are stronger and don't break as easily as the ceramic ones. Even though the ceramic ones are tooth colored, they are not as durable and often will chip away or break and it is not very easy to remove them from the tooth surface (you will inevitably break one or more brackets during your treatment time). Personally, I recommend the metal ones (you are most likely going to be in braces between 12-24 months anyway so it's not forever and we want to move the teeth as quick and effectively as possible, which is why the metal braces are better in this case). If, on the other hand, you absolutely can't stand the site of the metal brackets, then ceramic ones can do the work but they're usually more expensive (because they are considered a cosmetic alternative) and like mentioned above, they break more often which can cost you more as the dentist has to order the ceramic brackets again.
Hope this helps!
Metal work quicker and are less likely to break while ceramic are more esthetic. It’s up to you to decide which is best for what you are looking for.
Metal or ceramic are only the colors; they both do the same thing!
