Why did I have unusual bleeding for 9 days?

My normal cycle is 31 days. My period is usually on time, with the occasional few days late. I use no type of contraceptive. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex 3 days before ovulation, the day of ovulation, and the day after ovulation. On the day my period was due, I had light spotting. I have been bleeding for 9 days since. I had maybe 2 clots the day after my period was due, but other than that it has been a light period. I usually have heavy periods for 4 days with clots. I have had to change a pad maybe twice a day. Just curious if there is a possibility of being pregnant, did I have a miscarriage, or is it just a strange cycle?

Most likely you might have miscarried, or an isolated atypical cycle. My advice is take a pregnancy test as soon as you can and visit with your doctor for evaluation
Women not on birth control will have 1-2 abnormal cycles per year. This could be an extra cycle, skipping a cycle, etc. With that said, yes, you could have been early pregnant with a "chemical" pregnancy. You could have been early pregnant and it did not take. Then you have this abnormal bleeding. You would need a pregnancy test to confirm.

Pregnancy certainly possible with mid cycle intercourse, and some abnormal bleeding. Sometimes we see very early pregnancy losses just with some bleeding. Would check pregnancy test, see reproductive professional if you would like to explore fertility issues.

Good luck!

Miscarriage is documented only when your pregnancy test is positive. Possibly prolonged cycle due to hormonal imbalance. If it continues with next cycle see your OBGyn. If you are concerned about it, seek help sooner.
