Why do the bottoms of my feet hurt?

I am a 17 year old male. I have heel pain at the bottom of my feet. What could be the cause?

5 Answers

The most common cause of heel pain is a disorder referred to as plantar fasciitis. It is an inflammation of the tendon insertion into the heel bone. It is often caused from running, walking or standing long periods of time. Treatment is ice, stretching, and arch supports in your shoes. Avoid walking barefoot. Rolling the arches on a frozen water bottle is helpful as well.
There are multiple conditions that can cause pain on the bottom of your feet. To answer this question you have to be examined to determine where exactly on the bottom of your feet the pain is. Most commonly it is a condition called plantar fasciitis, however that is by far not the only possibility and an exam will help to help to differentiate between different conditions.
There are a few medical diagnoses that can be the cause of your heel pain. But you need to see a physician to conduct a physical exam to determine what is your cause of pain.

The answer is impossible to know without more information. However, as a 17 year old, your probably very active, running etc. They probably hurt due to overuse. Try Advil after running to see if that helps.

Hope it helps!!

Pain in the bottoms of the feet near the heels can be a few things. Plantar fasciitis is pretty common and pain is usually on the inside of the heel not quite in the center of the heel more toward the front of the foot. This pain usually significant during the very first few steps out of bed in the morning. Heel spurs can also be a source for pain and in fact may be a cause or the result of plantar fasciitis. Heel spurs can be identified on an x-ray. A podiatrist or an orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle would be able to diagnose your condition and recommend treatment which usually is conservative consisting of specific physical therapy  stretching or a local cortisone injection in the area of the plantar fascia attachment. The health professional clown also identify if you have flat arches or high arches and possibly recommend orthopedic inserts for your shoes.
