Why does a chiropractor crack your back?

I am a 19 year old male. I had a chiropractic adjustment and the chiropractor cracked my back. Why does a chiropractor crack your back?

“Cracking” or adjusting the back is used to remove interferences in the communication between the brain and the body. The body has an amazing ability to heal and regulate itself. It does so through the brain and nervous system. Life stressors create blockages in the body’s ability to heal itself. Chiropractors remove those interferences by adjusting (cracking) the spine where your nervous system is housed.
The sound that many people refer as a "crack" properly called a cavitation and it does not necessary indicate adjustment. The sound occurs as the CO2 gas is released for the joint capsule. Specific Scientific Chiropractic Adjustment is designed to improves nervous system function and spinal mobility.
That is what fixes your problem and aligns your back, it probably felt great!
Hello,

Chiropractors perform adjustments to free restrictions in the spinal joints. This allows for proper nerve flow in the area, increased movement and decrease pain.

Hope this helps,

If the Chiropractor detected a subtle misalignment or lack of motion in a vertebrae, that may be causing irritation to the joint and surrounding musculature, that may be causing pain. Manipulation of the joint (cracking it) can help to restore the normal alignment and/or motion to the affected joint. This is usually one of the most effective treatments of back pain.
I hope you find this info helpful.

Take care and be well,

The "Crack" is a sound caused by the cavitation of the synovial fluid in the joint being adjusted; same thing as when you "crack" you knuckle.  You do not need the sound for an adjustment to take place, and if a region does "crack" it won't again for about 15 minutes. So the sound is an outcome of the adjustment to your subluxated (misaligned) segment.
The cracking sound that you hear are just gases in the joints being released. Chiropractors find areas of stress in your body and release them, to help restore function to the nervous system.
Chiropractors put a quick force into the joints of the spine to restore proper alignment and function to the joint. The cracking sound occurs due to a pressure change within the fluid filled joints of the spine.
I do not use the word cracking when talking about treating individuals. Proper Chiropractic manipulations may or may not cause a cracking sound. The sound is not important.
