Pediatrician Questions Fever

Why does my child have a consistent fever?

My son is 3 years old and has been having a consistently high temperature of 99.9. He has no cold or any other symptom of an infection. Normally he gets fever along with a cold or cough. Does only fever indicate a severe infection?

It is not a fever until temp is 100.4 or above. Some people have a little higher than others especially after 4 pm due to cortisol levels. This is normal
99.9 is not a fever. It could be a normal variation in temperature. I would get worried if fever is 101 or over.
I would suggest you see your doctor. Check the kidneys...probably blood work, it may be something else.
No, 99.9 is not a fever. A fever is above 100.4.
99.9 is not considered a fever. Normal people can run temperatures up to 100.3 and not be sick, so I would be concerned until it goes above 100.4.
