With loss of jobs, abusers who were going to go to work are now home all day. Increased drug use, poverty, social isolation, the division in this country if there even is a pandemic or if this will all be gone on Nov. 4, hunger, homelessness, the stress of the whole family home all day with no real outlets due to the pandemic. Homeschooling while parents are either working at home as well, trying to help their kids to use the computer, or having to go to work and have to decide what to do with their kids who are not in school. Students who are not self motivated to be independent enough to do school at home. Differences in parents opinions about staying safe during this pandemic, and people who have anger issues anyway, everything is just ramped up.
Hello,

I am not sure that it is increasing. I think it might be reported more because people are more educated and proactive, and it is time for things to stop. More people are getting help for anger management/stress related concerns.
It is increasing because people are locked inside their homes, when generally they spend time doing other activities. Also, the quarantine has increased anxiety and depression amongst individuals, as well as financial constraints; all of which lead to an increased in strain on relationships.
Research shows that domestic violence increase during holidays for various reasons, but one of them is that the abuser and the victim are home together. Another reason that it increases during holidays is that perpetrator may be drinking/using drugs so they are under the influence of substances. My guess would be that domestic violence is increasing during quarantine because the abuser and the victim are under one roof for a long period of time. Another reason might be that it is a stressful time and being under stress might contribute to increased drinking/drug use and higher rate of unemployment.
Domestic violence is about power and control. When in quarantine, people feel the loss of power and control over their lives. Add to that always being in close proximity and you get the right environment for abuse to occur. We also see an increase in gun violence and suicide.
Hello,

When people struggle to stay regulated, especially during difficult times, they become more reactive. More than anything right now, people need to utilize coping skills to help stay calm.
