The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has officially released a summary and overview of cannabis for medicinal purposes. In their summary they state that some components of cannabis, also known as cannabinoids, activate specific receptors to produce pharmacologic effects in the body, specifically in a patient's central nervous system and immune system. Cannabinoids also help reduce side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.
