Get to know Transplant Surgeon, Dr. Lee S. Cummings, who serves patients in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dr. Cummings is a transplant surgeon practicing in Kansas City, Missouri, at . Saint Luke’s Liver Disease Management and Liver and Transplant Specialists. He can also be found practicing with Saint Luke’s Gastrointestinal Cancer Program. Furthermore, he is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Missouri- Kansas City School of Medicine.

Dr. Cummings specializes in liver, intestine, multivisceral, kidney and pancreatic transplant. Also trained in the management of benign and malignant diseases of the bile duct, liver and pancreas, he accrued vast knowledge and experience in the management of short bowel syndrome and intestinal failure during his fellowship training.

A 2004-graduate of St. George’s University School of Medicine, Dr. Cummings went on to complete his general surgery residency at Maimonides Medical Center in New York City (2004 – 2009). Moreover, he joined Georgetown University to complete a fellowship in Abdominal Organ Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery (2009 – 2011).

The doctor attained board certification in general surgery through the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Transplant surgery refers to surgical procedures in which tissue or an organ is transferred from one area of a person’s body to another area, or from one person (the donor) to another person (the recipient).

Dr. Cummings is licensed to practice in the states of Kansas and Missouri. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
