Get to know Endocrinologist Dr. Romeu Azevedo, who serves patients throughout the State of Maryland.

A board-certified endocrinologist, Dr. Azevedo is affiliated with Capital Diabetes & Endocrine Associates, with offices in Camp Springs and Silver Springs, Maryland. He treats all endocrine and metabolic disorders and has a particular interest in diabetes, thyroid disease, obesity, hypercalcemia and hypogonadism. 

While using the most up-to-date evidence based medicine, he is exceptional at managing his diabetic patients with the latest and best technology and medicine. He is highly experienced in managing diabetic patients on insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors, as well as performing thyroid ultrasounds and fine needle aspirations.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Azevedo attended medical school at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He completed both his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in endocrinology at The George Washington University.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in endocrinology, diabetes & metabolism and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

On a professional level, he is an active member of the Endocrine Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

Endocrinology is a branch of biology and medicine dealing with the endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions known as hormones. Endocrinologists have the training to diagnose and treat hormone imbalances and problems by helping to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body. The common diseases and disorders of the endocrine system that endocrinologists deal with include diabetes mellitus, as well as adrenal, pituitary, and thyroid disorders, among others.

As a testament of his dedication to his patients, Dr. Azevedo has been the recipient of the On-Time Doctor Award (2018, 2017, 2016, 2015), Patients' Choice Award (2018, 2017, 2016), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2017, 2015), and Top 10 Doctor - City (2014).

Speaking several languages, he is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
