Write ReviewPatient Experience with Dr. Thompson
- Alex
I had an absolutely terrible all-around experience at Thompson Dentistry. I would not recommend Thompson Dentistry nor Dr. Oluwaseun Thompson to anyone who values the quality of their teeth. Trusting Dr. Thompson’s expertise and relying on her services was one of the largest medical mistakes I have made to-date. The aftermath of which continues to take a toll on my appearance, checkbook and general discomfort. Ironically, I found Thompson Dentistry after reading many positive patient reviews while searching for a new dentist in the Atlanta area. After my experience, I am completely shocked that other patients were satisfied with their services. However, all I can do is shed some light into my nightmare experience and the financial and physical repercussions that I am still dealing with well after the fact. Their office is difficult to find and requires walking through a crowded hospital. It is small and not clean or well-kept. Despite the staff being friendly, I strongly believe that neither the hygienists nor Dr. Thompson herself are qualified, skilled or knowledgeable enough to be performing more than a routine cleaning. During my first visit, Dr. Thompson recommended 2 crown replacements and a bonding replacement with an out of pocket patient cost of $900 with insurance covering the remaining $800. Regrettably, I relied on Dr. Thompson’s expert diagnoses and treatment plans and have to live with the buyer’s remorse and consequences that followed. One of my lateral incisors (tooth next to big front teeth) had been partially bonded when I was younger because it was smaller than the rest. This bonding had lasted for 18 years with no issues, however, Dr. Thompson and team decided that a small gap was opening near my gum line so the bonding needed to be removed and replaced. Not only did the color of the bonding not match my teeth but it fell out 6 MONTHS after they adhered it. Since it didn’t even last 1 year (or 1/10th of the duration of the previous bonding) my dental insurance won’t cover the $1500 replacement. The second reason for visiting Dr. Thompson was to address a gap in my back teeth that had developed where 2 crowns met 2 implants. They convinced me that the best option was to replace the crowns. After the procedure I spent a month in and out of the office in excruciating pain because the temporary crowns would not stay in for more than 12 hours. Every type of food ranging from fruit to cheese would cause them to fall out and leaving me in pain until I could get them fixed/replaced. One of the most frustrating things was having to go into their office 5 times in order for them to replace the temporary crown that kept breaking, sometimes waiting for several hours in the waiting room for them the ‘squeeze’ me in. When they finally fitted the permanent crowns they were much higher than my natural bite and a totally different color than any of my other teeth. All in all I spent nearly $1K, countless hours away from work, and endured a month of pain to have a smile with mismatched teeth and discomfort while eating. Since then, I have learned (based on two different DDS opinions) that I should have had the screw-in implants replaced with cement ones and left the crowns alone. Not to mention that the unnecessary crown replacements were too high and curved causing muscle tension/soreness in my cheeks and my bite to shift as a result. So I’m left deciding whether to persevere another 6 months with half of a tooth missing and face muscles I have to massage daily waiting until my insurance kicks-in or shell out $4500 for another dentist to fix Dr. Thompson’s mistakes.
