Get to know Orthodontist Dr. Mario E. Tai, who serves patients in Irvine, California.

Licensed in the states of California, New York, and Massachusetts, Dr. Tai is a Harvard-trained specialist in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics. He is dedicated to providing the highest quality of individualized orthodontic care to patients of all ages. He also lectures at various study clubs and at international conferences on the fundamentals and the latest advancements in orthodontics.

At Tai Orthodontics, he and his wife, Dr. Betty Chen, are proud to have been delivering smiles in Irvine and Orange County locations since 2008. They utilize state-of-the-art appliances, the latest orthodontic technologies, convenient office hours, a well-trained support staff, and a warm, family-oriented environment to assure that each patient’s journey to a beautiful smile is a memorable and joyful experience.

Pertaining to his academic background, Dr. Tai earned dual doctoral degrees at Harvard University, where he received his Doctor of Medical Sciences degree and Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree. He also completed his orthodontic specialty training in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics at Harvard University. Prior to this, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California in Irvine, where he graduated with Honors in Biological Sciences. 

The doctor’s professional afflictions include the Harvard Society for the Advancement of Orthodontics, the American Association of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, the California Association of Orthodontics, the Orange County Dental Society, and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists. He is also a past President of the Greater Boston Chinese Dental Association.

Throughout his professional career, Dr. Tai has been the recipient of multiple honors, including the Harvard Medical School Research Fellowship Award and the Award for Excellence in Dental Research by the American Dental Association.

Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of malpositioned teeth and jaws. As an orthodontist, Dr. Tai is responsible for identifying problems with the positioning of a patient’s teeth and with their oral development.
