Get to know Internist Dr. Reshma Gupta, who serves patients in Sacramento, California.
Dr. Gupta is an internal medicine physician offering care to patients with a variety of chronic and acute medical conditions. She practices both primary care and hospital medicine.
At present, she is the Chief of Population Health and Accountable Care at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California & part of the Population Health Leadership Team for strategy across UC Health campuses.
In this role, Dr. Gupta oversees population health, affordability, care pathways, and ambulatory quality improvement efforts across the health system. She oversees accountable governmental and commercial payer performance and oversees a Population Health Learning Health System Hub. She engages over 100 clinical and non-clinical staff, links initiatives to trainee education, and manages a value improvement data management and analytics team.
“I believe in co-developing care plans with my patients both in primary care and the hospital. I focus on providing sound medical guidance to answer my patients’ questions and medical and social needs” expressed Dr. Gupta.
Among her other titles, she is a Co-Director of Costs of Care, a non-governmental organization focused on improving care affordability, where she leads a learning community of over 500 international health leaders and educators. She is also a senior adviser to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovations’ Comprehensive Primary Care program to test payment reform.
Teaching students, she serves as an Associate Professor within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis.
Throughout her academic career, Dr. Gupta graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2004. She then went on to earn her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine in 2010, and her Master of Science degree in Health Policy and Management from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health in 2015.
Furthering her training, she performed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Washington in 2011 and 2014, respectively. She also performed a fellowship within the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at UCLA in 2016.
Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. Gupta is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Her research and administrative interests focus on health system innovation, quality improvement, and education to better define and improve the culture of delivering high quality care at lower cost for patients and health systems.
