Dr. Mahony leads a successful aesthetic surgery practice in Westport, Connecticut. A board-certified plastic surgeon that believes healthy aging is a function of mind, body – inside and out – and spirit, she has dedicated her work and practice to helping her patients find their best selves through a variety of traditional and cutting-edge procedures. Her passion – and the focus of her on-going medical training over the past few years – are innovative, DNA-based, biologic procedures that address many of the common concerns for women and men aged 40+.
The quality of patient care she provides is a genuine reflection of her extensive academic, surgical and therapeutic background. She received her degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Connecticut in 1979, and went on to earn a Master’s degree in International Health Care from the Yale University Graduate School. With an advanced degree in public health, she traveled to Africa to engage in research with the Hanang Village Health project in Tanzania, which became the platform for Tanzania’s nationalized healthcare program.
Upon her return to the United States, Dr. Mahony entered medical school at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, and became one of only a select few female physicians invited to enter the University’s General Surgery Residency. She completed her fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the University of Pennsylvania, and successfully completed their highly-acclaimed residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Passionate about her profession, the doctor is one of the few female plastic surgeons in Connecticut to be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is a member of the American College of Surgeons, and the American Society for Aesthetic Surgery. She is certified to practice in Connecticut, New York and Maine, and is also a licensed physical therapist in the state of Connecticut.
Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two main categories - reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. A plastic surgeon’s primary responsibility is performing surgical and non-surgical procedures, and they use a variety of reparative and reconstructive techniques to get the job done.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Mahony has been awarded research and merit scholarships, and recognized with several awards from professional medical organizations, including the American Medical Association (AMA). She has also been the recipient of the Patients' Choice Award (2020, 2018, 2017, 2014, 2013), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2020, 2018, 2017, 2014, 2013), and On-Time Doctor Award (2020, 2018, 2017, 2014).
On a more personal note, she is a lifelong athlete who enjoys tennis, sailing, travel, sculpting, and reading.
