Dr. Azadfard is the Associate Chief of Family Medicine and Medical Director of Chemical Dependency, Substance Abuse at Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). ECMC is a hospital with 550 beds located in the East Side of Buffalo, New York and a member of the Great Lakes Health System. It is the primary teaching hospital for the University at Buffalo. In addition, ECMC is a verified Level 1 Adult Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons, designated a Level 1 Adult Trauma Center by the NYS Department of Health, as well as a regional center for burn care, behavioral health services, transplantation, medical oncology and head & neck cancer care, and rehabilitation. At every level of their organization, the team at ECMC Hospital demonstrates dedication to caring for patients with the best expertise, knowledge, and technology—a commitment that’s been brought to life with their multiple centers of excellence, a growing main campus, and ever-increasing community involvement.
Dr. Azadfard is also the Medical Director of UB/MD Family Medicine/Addiction Medicine Clinic, as well as Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Buffalo.
Dr. Azadfard received his medical degree from the Iran University of medical Sciences. Thereafter, he went on to complete his residency in Family Medicine at the Wyoming Valley Health Care System, followed by his fellowship at the University of Buffalo.
Dr. Azadfard is board-certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). Founded in 1969, the ABFM is a not-for-profit, private organization whose mission is to improve the health of the public through board certification, residency training, research, leadership development, and promoting the development of the specialty of Family Medicine. In addition, Dr. Azadfard is board-certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM). The ABAM is the nation’s first medical specialty board that certifies addiction medicine physicians across a range of medical specialties. Their mission is to promote the training and certification of an expanding number of physicians in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of substance related disorders, in order to help address the enormous public health burden presented by tobacco, alcohol, and other substance use disorders and related conditions.
Dr. Azadfard is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). Founded in 1954, ASAM is a professional medical society representing over 6,000 physicians, clinicians and associated professionals in the field of addiction medicine. ASAM is dedicated to increasing access and improving the quality of addiction treatment, educating physicians and the public, supporting research and prevention, and promoting the appropriate role of physicians in the care of patients with addiction.
