When should I replace dentures?
Depends. If you had your teeth removed and dentures placed immediately (same day) you probably need new dentures. If your teeth had been out for a long time, long enough to heal properly from extractions, you may just need a reline. Your mouth will change shape within 1-5 years of denture placement and most people may need a reline. during this time. After 5-10 years, you need new teeth. READ MORE
Can you use Listerine with dental implants?
Yes, just make sure to get the ALCOHOL-FREE Listerine. READ MORE
How do you treat gum sores from dentures?
New dentures frequently cause abrasions and need to be adjusted by your dentist. I tell my patients to use a power adhesive (made for dentures of course) for the first few days to help the denture stay in place. After all, your tissues need a little time to adapt to the new prosthesis. Make sure to take your teeth out at night and soak them in room temperature water only. Also, only use products made for dentures and follow the directions. If you have a really sore area, discontinue wearing until you see your dentist. Finally, remember, dentures take time to get used to, and your mouth changes over time. You should continue to see your dentist at least yearly for an oral cancer screening and to check the fit of your dentures. At some point in the future, you will need a reline. Hope this helps! Treatments
- I treat patients of all ages so I have a wide variety of treatments. My treatments range from preventive hygiene services to simple restorative procedures all the way up to more complex restorative procedures including extractions, endodontic therapy, crowns, bridges, implants, dentures and partials.
Internships
- Between my 3rd and 4th year summer break, I did an "externship" at Dr. Paula Gill's office in Manchester, KY. This was a great experience for me because I was encouraged to do as much as I felt comfortable doing during that stage of my career.
Professional Society Memberships
- I am a member of the KDA (Kentucky Dental Association) and ADA (American Dental Association). I am currently a member of the AAFE (American Academy of Facial Esthetics).
What do you attribute your success to?
- I have always believed that if I treat my patients with dignity and respect, and perform dentistry to the best of my abilities that I will succeed. So far, it hasn't failed me and I will continue to live by this for as long as I practice dentistry.
Philanthropic Initiatives
- I am proud to be one of the Elgin Children's Foundation Dentists! The foundation pays for treatment and transportation for children in need, from school to my office. I live and work in an area that has many children in need of extra help. I am grateful to be a part of such a wonderful program. I get to meet and treat the most awesome kids. It is my hope, they will learn how to take care of themselves so that when they become an adult, they will feel, look and function better in society.
Teaching and speaking
- When I first graduated dental school, I came back to London and was asked to help cover clinic at our local hygiene school. I did that a couple of Fridays a month to give one of the other instructors a break once in a while. It was really fun interacting with the hygiene students and passing along my knowledge.
Favorite Place to Vacation
- Florida's 30A is one of my favorite places. It isn't too far away from where I live that I can't drive there in a day, and it doesn't feel as commercial as some places.
Hobbies / Sports
- I love to read, especially when learning new things. I love "THE HOME EDIT" girls and all the organizing ideas they have! I enjoy numerous outside activities such as planting flowers, walking and being with my dog and cats.
