Get to know Emergency Physician Dr. John Pedro Francisco Lopez, who serves patients in Perth Amboy, New Jersey.

A top emergency and urgent care physician, Dr. Lopez assesses patients who seek immediate medical attention at any time of day or night. He can be found on staff at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, and at the American Family Care Urgent Care of Perth Amboy.

Saint Peter’s University Hospital is a Roman Catholic hospital on Easton Avenue in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The hospital is a member of the Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, Inc., a New Jersey nonprofit corporation sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen.

American Family Care Urgent Care is a new venture that opened in December, 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, to deliver urgent care to the underserved community of Perth Amboy, New Jersey.

Academically, Dr. Lopez graduated with his medical degree from Albany Medical College in 1996. He then went on to perform his combined residency in internal medicine / pediatrics at Morristown Medical Center, and his fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center / Rhode Island Hospital.  Additionally, he earned his Masters Degree in Clinical Research at the University of Pittsburgh.

With over 25 years of experience, he is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Furthermore, he is board-certified in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, whose mission is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Finally, he was one of the first recognized members of the National Association of Inpatient Physicians, later known as the American Board of Hospital Physicians.

Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician is a physician who works at an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients. They care for unscheduled and undifferentiated patients of all ages.
